Visual Voicemail is just a fancy name for how your iPhone displays and manages your voicemail messages--kind of like an email inbox. Nearly all mobile providers in North America and Europe support Visual Voicemail, as well a growing number of providers in other countries. If your provider doesn't support Visual Voicemail on the iPhone, check with your carrier to see if they offer their own voicemail app. If they don't, you can still use your iPhone's built-in voicemail tools to listen to and manage your messages.

Open your iPhone's Phone app. It's the green-and-white phone icon on your home screen.^[1]

- If tapping Voicemail initiates a call, you'll need to follow the spoken instructions from here to finish setting up your voicemail. This means that your provider doesn't support Visual Voicemail.

Enter an existing password or create one now. The option varies depending on whether you've already set up voicemail through your provider:
- If you've already set up voicemail through your cellular provider, you'll be prompted to enter it now. Type the password and tap "Done" to connect your existing voicemail to Visual Voicemail. Any messages in your existing voicemail box will be transferred to your iPhone after setup is complete.
- If you've never set up your voicemail, you'll be prompted to create a password. Enter a new password, tap Done enter it again, and then tap Done again to confirm.

- Tapping the speaker icon will play the message through your iPhone's external speaker instead of through the phone receiver.

Tap the trash can to delete a message. If you want to delete multiple messages, tap the back button to return to the voicemail list, tap Edit at the top-right corner, select messages to delete, and then tap Delete at the bottom.

Tap the blue phone receiver to call the caller back. This immediately returns the call, so only tap this button if you're ready to talk to the caller.

Edit your greeting. If you want to change your greeting, just tap Greeting at the top-right corner of your voicemail inbox to select the default greeting or create a new custom greeting.

Change your voicemail password. If you ever need to reset your password, you can do so in your Settings:
- Open your iPhone's Settings app, which is the gray gear icon on the home screen.
- Scroll down and tap Phone.
- Tap Change Voicemail Password.
- Enter and confirm a new password.
